Firearms & Ammunition Airline Transport Rules
(TSA)Transportation Security Administration
You may transport unloaded firearms in a locked hard-sided container as checked baggage only. Declare the firearm and/or ammunition to the airline when checking your bag at the ticket counter. The container must completely secure the firearm from being accessed. Locked cases that can be easily opened are not permitted. Be aware that the container the firearm was in when purchased may not adequately secure the firearm when it is transported in checked baggage.

Delta takes safety seriously and follows all applicable laws when it comes to transporting firearms and related items:
- We treat handguns, rifles, shotguns, starter pistols, firearm parts (like frames or receivers), and silencers as firearms under federal law.
- Items like BB guns, paintball markers, and air guns are also handled like firearms.
- Compressed gas cartridges are classified as dangerous goods and are not permitted in carry-on or checked baggage.
- You can pack empty air cylinders and paintballs in your checked bags.
- Blank cartridges count as ammunition, so they must follow our checked ammunition rules.

American Airlines
